Mage and Monsters is a premium strategy game where you can sit back and relax as you allow your fictional army to fight your battles for you. This auto battler also features magical elements that require you to come up with spells that could help strengthen your troops.

Similar to games like Darkest Dungeon and Until Dawn, Mage and Monsters also employs the element of permadeath. This mechanic determines that characters who have lost all of their health on the battlefield can no longer be revived or used to play again.

One of Mage and Monsters’ key highlights is the diverse roster of 8 mages, each possessing a unique bonus and starting spell. This variety allows players to tailor their playstyle and experiment with different strategies. Additionally, the ability to choose from a selection of 25 unique units and the challenge of overcoming 35 different monsters contribute to a rich and dynamic gameplay environment.

The game also impresses with its selection of 11 distinctive spells that can be used strategically during battles. The decision to allocate resources towards upgrading the army or strengthening spells adds a layer of tactical complexity, ensuring that players must carefully weigh their choices and adapt to different situations. The rewarding progression system in the game further enhances its appeal, as well. 

Visually, this title is a treat for the eyes. The meticulously designed arena and forest maps create stunning backdrops for the intense battles that unfold. With 30 normal levels and 5 challenging endgame levels on each map, the game offers a well-paced and satisfying progression curve. However, once you get past all of the available levels, there’s not much else to do in the game.

Overall, Mage and Monsters creates an engaging game experience that allows players to think on their feet as they come up with their own unique strategies all while allowing them to explore different battle styles. The use of a visually appealing map adds to the immersive experience. However, there is a noticeable lack of long-term content and variety that can keep players engaged even after they’ve completed all the available levels.
